Scheduling your visit

Appointments may be scheduled by contacting our receptionist during regular business hours. When speaking with our receptionist, please feel free to ask for an estimate of the initial examination fees.

Once your pet has been examined, your doctor or technician will be able to formulate a medical care plan for your pet involving costs and treatment options.

NEW AND REFERRAL PATIENTS

If you are new to our practice, please bring any pertinent information or your pet’s previous records to your appointment. Your pet’s previous records may also be faxed to our office at 610-384-3906. If you are coming to us as a referral client, in addition to your pet’s records, please bring with you, your pet’s x-rays and previous blood work results. This information helps us to provide the best possible care for your pet. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the beginning of your appointment to facilitate the completion of our Client Information Form. For your convenience, this information form may be completed and printed or submitted from this website.

PREPARING YOUR PET FOR THEIR VISIT

It’s normal for pets to be nervous before their veterinary visit. Don’t worry, our staff will do everything we can to make your pet at ease during their visit. When enroute to your visit, please make sure your pet is safely harnessed or crated during their car ride to prevent any accidents. Covering your cat’s carrier with an old towel is a great way to keep our feline friends comfortable and relaxed while they travel. Upon arriving at the hospital, please keep your pet leashed or crated until veterinary staff is ready work with your pet.

If your doctor needs to collect a blood sample from your pet, please do not feed them for 12 hours prior to their visit (exceptions to this include young animals, animals with diabetes, or unless directed otherwise by the doctor.) Your pet may have free access to water prior to their visit. If your pet is on prescription medication, please administer their medication as you would normally prior to their visit (unless you have been directed otherwise by the doctor.) If your pet is experiencing urinary problems, please bring a fresh urine sample collected in a clean container to their visit. This sample should be refrigerated prior to their visit. New pets to our practice, kittens, puppies, pregnant pets, pets receiving their annual wellness exam, and pets experiencing gastrointestinal problems should bring a small sample of stool to their visit

SURGICAL PATIENTS

Please do not feed your pet 12 hours prior to their surgical appointment. Animals scheduled for surgical procedures should arrive at the hospital between 8:00 and 8:30 am the day of their surgery. These pets are able to have free access to water prior to their appointment. Please be prepared to spend a few moments with the doctor to discuss your pet’s surgical procedure prior to their admittance to the hospital. Upon recovery from surgery, your pet’s doctor will contact you with an update. Most surgical patients are discharged in the afternoon following surgery (at the doctor’s discretion.) Orthopedic patients are commonly discharged the day after their surgery.

THE OFFICE VISIT

Once you arrive at the hospital, the receptionist will greet you and check your pet in. You will then be escorted to an examination room, where a veterinary technician and doctor will perform a thorough physical examination and obtain a complete medical history. At your request, we are happy to provide you with an assessment of your pet’s treatment options and cost. Please plan on spending between 20 to 40 minutes at our hospital if your pet is scheduled for an annual wellness exam. Orthopedic consultations average between 1 hour to 1.5 hours in length.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Payment is expected at the time services are completed. Brandywine Valley Veterinary Hospital accepts cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card, American Express, and CareCredit. Care Credit is a flexible payment system designed to facilitate the veterinary care you want and need for your pet.

CANCELLATION POLICY

If your are unable to keep your appointment, please provide us with 24 hours notice of this cancellation. We will be happy to reschedule this appointment for you. We reserve the right to bill for any missed appointment time which has not been rescheduled or cancelled within 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time.
