Dr. Schafer, who was born in Detroit, is a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She also did her undergraduate degree there, and worked part time at the University’s horse barn. Between graduating and starting veterinary school, she spent a year managing an Arabian breeding farm in Michigan. She practiced for 19 years in Exton, Pennsylvania, before joining Brandywine Valley Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Schafer lives with her husband and son, who is studying at Elizabethtown College. They share their home with two Maine Coon cats; Fenway and Little, and a black Labrador named Hudson. She enjoys watching baseball, baking, gardening (especially growing Dahlias!), bird watching, traveling, reading, crossword puzzles, and sports photography, soccer in particular.
She says “I believe that pets are important members of the family, and it is my responsibility (and pleasure!) to offer the best level of healthcare to each one. A significant part of that commitment is continually leaning new techniques, and keeping informed of the latest advancements in veterinary medicine so I can share that with you. Listening to you gives me invaluable information on your pet’s current status, whether in wellness or illness, so that together we can achieve the best outcome for each pet.”
